GBPN Country Manager, Dr Ery Wijaya, hopes that this discussion will enrich the ongoing discussions that will  help form solid stepping stones for the government to take meaningful steps towards net zero emissions development for years to come.

“The Indonesian government’s sustained commitment to advancing low-carbon development as a national priority agenda is evident in the country’s medium term plan, as well as its vision for 2045 and strategy to continue the journey to move towards achieving net-zero emission by 2060 or earlier.” Dr Wijaya said.

“Given that policy implementation takes place at the sub-national level , effective collaboration between the national and sub-national level governments needs to be strengthened. This is key to make sure that continued progress can be built over time across all sub-national areas in Indonesia.”

“Through this discussion, we will also share how an evidence-based bottom-up approach supported by public private dialogue with keystakeholders can help the sub-national governments develop an actionable policy plan that is more contextualized to further support the mainstreaming of energy conservation in buildings.”

GBPN Indonesia sub-national engagement expert and senior manager, Yeni Indra, highlights the crucial role of aligning regional-national policy to foster energy conservation in the built environment.

YENI INDRA | GBPN

“The alignment of regional and national policies is fundamental in catalyzing enhanced implementation and tangible results of energy conservation within the built environment. This strategic coherence promotes synergy between policy frameworks at the national level and implementation strategies at the sub-national level and creates a basis for effective adoption and measurable progress of emission reduction from the building sector.”

“Translating national policies into localized implementation plans enables local governments to adjust energy conservation strategies to their specific capacities. And by integrating this strategy into local development plans, the local government will facilitate more sustainable and accountable implementation.”

Yeni and her team have played a crucial role in driving subnational engagement over the past year, and they are now nearing the culmination of this collaborative effort with city governments and national governments. This milestone will be marked by this high-level alignment discussion involving three key ministries focused on policies regarding energy conservation in the building sector.

Scheduled for March 28, 2024, the event will feature both online and on-site sessions. This discussion is suitable for you who work in sustainable development progress or are interested in learning more about strategy to align the subnational governments’ policy planning and implementation with the national policy to reduce emission in the building sector.
