Greg Foliente is an academic, research scientist and expert consultant in sustainable and resilient built environment, and in climate mitigation and adaptation. He is a conference speaker, workshop facilitator, mentor and author of four books and hundreds of other publications. He is a Professor at the University of Melbourne University and Director of nBLue Pty Ltd. He leads interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, education, consulting and collaboration initiatives that advance innovation in the built environment, energy and urban systems sectors, with a primary focus on improved sustainability and resilience. He is a strategic leader and effective manager of high-performing interdisciplinary teams and large multi-stakeholder initiatives.

With over 20 years of experience at Australia’s national science agency, the CSIRO, and a leading Australian university, he has worked with senior leaders at all levels of government and industry and delivered high impact programs. Greg is also a Guest Professor in an EU-based International PhD Programme in Sustainable Built Environment, a Venture Partner in US-based Shadow Ventures and a Board Member for the non-profit International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE).

Greg serves as an expert international consultant to international organisations, governments, industry and community groups, including social enterprises. He has also designed and facilitated a wide range of workshops and design charrettes – on vision and strategy, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, theory of change, innovation and transformation agenda programs, and sustainable development. He led the development of the Australian Life Cycle Inventory (AusLCI) database and has contributed to the technical work program of several International Energy Agency (IEA) Annexes. He has been an expert consultant to UN agencies – developing Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodologies for the UNFCCC and contributing to various UNEP initiatives.

He holds a PhD and two MSc degrees from Virginia Tech in the US (1993) and BSc in Civil Engineering from Mapua University in the Philippines (1984). Greg is based in Melbourne, Australia.
