GBPN Meets with Vice Minister to Advance Indonesia’s Affordable Housing

GBPN Executive Director Peter Graham met with Vice Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Mr. Fahri Hamzah, to discuss Indonesia’s Green Affordable Housing Program’s (IGAHP) progress and next steps. The meeting underscored the Ministry’s strong commitment to realizing the vision of sustainable, affordable housing and strengthening the necessary regulatory and institutional frameworks.

The program continues to make strides toward its ambitious goal of delivering 3 million affordable homes for low-income and middle-income families. GBPN is supporting  this initiative by providing evidence-based recommendations and technical expertise.

Mr. Hamzah reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to this initiative, highlighting the importance of partnerships in achieving large-scale impact.

“This initiative is critical for improving housing accessibility while ensuring sustainability. We are fully committed to working with GBPN to strengthen the regulatory and institutional foundations to achieve the target of 3 million affordable homes,” Mr. Hamzah said.

Mr. Hamzah emphasized the Ministry’s openness to technical recommendations that will be implemented collaboratively with GBPN and the Ministry’s team.

“We recognize the importance of expert-driven solutions in achieving our housing goals. The Ministry is fully committed to working with GBPN in implementing effective policies and ensuring that technical recommendations are seamlessly integrated into our housing strategies,” Mr. Hamzah said.

At the meeting, GBPN’s Indonesia team presented key progress updates and recommendations based on data-driven insights. The discussion reinforced the need for continued collaboration between policymakers, technical experts, and implementing partners to ensure the success of IGAHP.

“The commitment from the Ministry is a crucial step in ensuring that affordable housing in Indonesia is both accessible and sustainable. By integrating strong regulatory frameworks with practical implementation, we can create homes that benefit both people and the environment,” Dr. Graham said.

The partnership between GBPN and IGAHP has been ongoing since 2024, initially under the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. Following reorganization in late 2024, IGAHP is now under the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas. GBPN and the IGAHP team remain dedicated to advancing the program’s objectives under the new ministry and ensuring that green, affordable housing becomes a nationwide standard.

With this renewed commitment, GBPN and IGAHP will continue to drive policy improvements, technical support, and capacity-building initiatives to help realize Indonesia’s vision of sustainable and inclusive housing for all.
