OUR COALITIONS

OUR COALITIONS

WORKING TOGETHER FOR GREATER IMPACT

The way we build has to change — but change can’t happen without the right people. That’s why GBPN forms powerful coalitions to drive local policy reform strategies and collaborate on innovations and insights.

HIDUP, INDONESIA

THE HIDUP program (meaning ‘alive’ in Bahasa Indonesia) was formed in May 2020 to organize our LEPs and bring together public and private sector stakeholders to develop a decarbonization policy plan for housing in Indonesia with the endorsement of a government to pilot implementation.

In 2020, the City of Samarinda in East Kalimantan, confirmed it will collaborate with GBPN and local University UNTAG to pilot the plan and develop local green building standards for housing.

HIDUP will focus on supporting the policy plan piloting and extending the insights and lessons learned in Samarinda and Bali by:

  • Providing a platform for Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Providing Local knowledge exchange opportunities
  • Supporting a Strategic Advisory Group for Policy Plan implementation including representatives of the Mayors of Samarinda, Bandung, Denpasar, the Regency of Gianyar and Governor of Bail, Ministries of Energy, Housing & Public Works and Environment.

JINDA, INDIA

Following the success of HIDUP in Indonesia, formed a new local coalition of public and private sector stakeholders called ‘Jinda’ (Alive in Hindi) to coordinate efforts in India.

A residential energy code has been launched in India and our goal is to support its adoption as law in at least one state. The goal of this effort is to increase the number of projects being constructed to code, and to collect evidence of costs and benefits that build the case for mandating the use of the code by a state.

Due to the disruptions caused by COVID to the construction sector, we have adjusted our tactics to focus on provision of a toolkit to support the adoption of the code in:

  • The National Climate Smart-Cities Alliance
  • State Government’s by-laws aligned with the Energy Conservation Building Code for residential buildings (ECO-NIWAS SAMHITHA 2018).
  • Local Government in the city of Ahmedabad.
